Water Saves Lives

Clean Water Project

Faama villagers rely on river water, which is dangerously contaminated with bacteria and waterborne diseases.
Boundless Humanity visited Faama in 2024 and learned first hand just how dire the need for clean, safe water is.

Urgent Need in Faama

Faama is a beautiful village in southern Sierra Leone, near the border of Liberia.  For years, the people of Faama and the surrounding area have relied on unsafe, unsanitary water from the nearby river for survival.  As a result, the people suffer from deadly illnesses and critical dehydration, most of which affect the young and the elderly.

After years of civil war, this remote village has been left with little in the way of resources for the nearly 12,000 people who call it home.

A clean source of drinkable water is an immediate need for Faama, as it hosts the only hospital and marketplace for miles around.

With your help, we can solve this problem.

Your donation will immediately be used to bring clean, life-saving water to Faama.

The Crisis Explained

Unsafe water sources are responsible for more than 1 million deaths each year around the globe.  Competition for the scarce resource drives conflict in these areas, especially remote border areas such as Faama, where years of war and poverty have left the surrounding populations desperate.

The lack of clean water in the Faama community severely impacts daily life.  Health is compromised as residents face waterborne diseases like cholera and dysentery due to contaminated river water.  Women and children spend hours collecting water, limiting time for education and economic activities, which perpetuates poverty.

The lack of clean water hinders agricultural productivity as well, increasing food insecurity and hindering economic sustainability.  Access to clean, safe water is crucial for improving health, education, and economic opportunities for the people of Faama and the surrounding villages.

Solar powered submersible pumps provide a reliable source of safe water for thousands of people.  Faama has been without an operable water system for years, which has taken its tole on the community in numerous ways.

How You Can Help

According to the doctor in Faama, more lives are lost every year to complications associated with unsafe drinking water than anything else.

Boundless Humanity has teamed with UNICEF to oversee the installation of a solar-powered submersible pump station that will fill Faama’s water tanks and supply clean, safe drinking water to dozens of tap sites around the village.  This will provide an immediate, life-saving benefit to the people of Faama and the thousands who visit the village for goods and services in this remote area.

We need your help to purchase, install, and maintain this water system and bring about real, lasting change for the community.

For only $5,000.00, we can install a fully functional water supply system and ensure that local technicians are trained to operate and maintain it for years to come.
